What Kind of Help Can You Get?

Application Process
Step 1: Initial Application
To apply for Access to Work:
• Go to the official website and click ‘Start now’.
• Fill in your name, address, and how to contact you.
• Tell them about your health condition or neurodiversity (like ADHD, autism, dyslexia, diabetes, epilepsy, or a physical disability).
• Explain how it makes your job harder and what help you think would make it easier, like noise-cancelling headphones or someone to help you with organising your day.
• Send in the form and wait to hear back.
Alternatively, call 0800 121 7479 to speak directly to an advisor.
Step 2: Call from AtW advisor
An advisor will usually call within 5 days to confirm details; they may even call your workplace (with your permission).
Step 3: Assessment
A meeting will be set up with an AtW advisor to assess your needs. You will be asked to describe the challenges you face at work due to your neurodiversity and how you would use the funds to help overcome these challenges.
Step 4: Report sent to AtW
The assessor will send a report to AtW, and they will consider your funding needs. If successful, a letter will be sent with the amount you will get.
How Much Money Can You Get?
The amount of money you can get depends on the kind of help you need. You can get up to £260 per year.
How Long Does It Take to Apply?
The whole process, from start to finish, usually takes 5 to 6 months, but sometimes it can take longer.
