Last term, a student of mine brought me a heartwarming book called Just Ask.” The book highlights the various physical, medical, and cognitive challenges that children may face and celebrates diversity.

As I flipped through the pages, one of the characters caught their attention. “One of the people in this book is just like us, Mr Calum,” they said with a smile.
It’s moments like this that remind me how important it is for students to see diversity and inclusion in literature and also in their teachers. It helps them understand that being different is not only okay but should be celebrated.
